The moment someone mentioned Russia, the names that used to come in mind were Moscow and St. Petersburg. These cities epitomized Russia for most of the people around the world and remained the focus of tourist attention. However, with the disintegration of the Soviet Union, people have started to look beyond these cities and started exploring the country on a much wider basis. The largest country in the world, Russia encompasses so many attractions, right from freshwater lakes, soaring mountains rivers and forests to beautiful monuments, rich wildlife and awe inspiring volcanoes, within its precincts. Russia is the largest country in the world. It covers 1/7 of all of the land of our planet. Russia has longest borders in the world, it is washed by 22 seas and has 12 in-land seas. Russia neighbors more other countries than any country on earth. Russia boasts an enormous variety of landscapes, ranging from tundra to steppes, from deserts to mountains, from glaciers to volcanoes. The Urals are the oldest mountains in the world and lake Baikal is the world's deepest lake and a largest reservoir of fresh water on earth. Russia has about 145.5 million people and in terms of population is the ninth largest country in the world. Eighty percent of Russians reside in Western Russia. Moscow alone has 11 million people. It is the largest city in Europe. The average age of Russian is 30 years old. Average family size is three persons.
